Despite the record breaking snow blanketing the area, a hearty group of artists, art lovers, Sudbury Valley Trustees supporters and local neighbors enjoyed the art of Cecilia and her talented artists at the benefit Art Show February 6-8. The theme of the show highlighted the landscapes, flora and fauna of the Tri-Town (Berlin, Boylston, Northborough) area.

W_TriTownBarnCecilia’s student artists will be featured at Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) weekend Art Show at Berlin’s 1870 Town Hall. Original paintings and photographs, inspired by the natural beauty of Northborough, Berlin and Boylston will be on display and available as silent auction items or may be purchased at a special ‘Buy it Now’ price.

The artists’ work reflects the importance of SVT’s latest conservation endeavor in this region, the Tri-Town Landscape Protection (“Tri-Town”) Project. The Town of Berlin, the Town of Northborough, the Town of Boylston, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts join SVT in an effort to protect 500 acres of land that comprises quality habitat, working farms, and recreational trails. Working in a nine-square-mile area around Mount Pisgah and the Wachusett Reservoir, the group is striving to save an ecologically important and visually stunning landscape from further development.

Cecilia welcomes you to enjoy the work of many of her talented artists and learn more about the Tri-Town Landscape Protection Project.

Cecilia held her summer art workshop in a lovely sea side ‘cottage’ near Christmas Cove, South Bristol, Maine again this year.  With the beauty of the rocky coast, the breathtaking skies, and a fog cloaked lighthouse as inspiration;  a small group of artists under Cecilia’s encouraging guidance captured their impressions of this special place in plein air workshop sessions.

En plein air is a French expression which means “in the open air” and particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors.

Artists have long painted outdoors, but in the mid-19th century working in natural light became particularly important to the Barbizon school and Impressionism.

French Impressionist painters such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste_Renoir advocated en plein air painting, and much of their work was done outdoors in the diffuse light provided by a large white umbrella.
